For centuries, the compass has helped travelers navigate. The compass rose was originally known as the “wind rose,” and indicated the direction of the winds with the term “rose” coming from the ornate symbols used on the face of compasses and maps.

Today, the compass rose is featured in almost all navigation systems – showing direction and leading people to a destination. The use of the compass rose in our logo not only highlights Marshalltown as a destination of choice, but points out our strategic location in the heart of Iowa. A location that is not only central to main routes and easy to access, but has helped Marshalltown prosper.
